• Basic function of stock exchanges and terms of stock exchange trading

• Historical development of the stock exchanges

• Admission of financial instruments to exchange trading

• Exchange trading and settlement

• How indices work

Learning outcomes

The participants should get comprehensive knowledge of the capital markets, of the stock exchange with a focus on the Vienna Stock Exchange. They should gain knowledge of the most important stakeholders and their interaction. The functions of a modern exchange should be clear, its core tasks such as the admission of financial instruments to trading, the trading and settlement of financial instruments as well as the monitoring of trading activities. The participants should acquire the ability to correctly apply the basic terminology of stock exchange trading.

Attendance requirements

Participation in the (online) courses is mandatory. In case of a justified absence, a replacement service must be provided in consultant with the lecturer.

· Single Choice Exam: 90%
