There is no innovative thinking without visual thinking. This course is targeted at anyone who aims to work in the field on innovation, strategy consulting or in the corporate world after completing their studies. You will learn how to collaborate and present in a visual way and facilitate innovation teams. 

DAY 1: Visual Thinking
Visual Thinking is a way to organize your thoughts and improve your ability to think and communicate in a visual way. It’s a great way to convey complex or potentially confusing information and to share these ideas with others. With the right tools, anyone can sketch ideas and flipcharts. 

DAY 2: Innovation Facilitation 
Facilitating teams is a crucial skill for successfully leading innovation projects. We will look into agile facilitation skills, team dynamics, effective visual tools you can implement when facilitating innovation teams or leading strategic workshops.

Learning outcomes

After completing this class, students will have the ability to:

  • Visualise and structure ideas and concepts
  • Create a personal visual toolkit
  • Activate creativity in groups 
  • Facilitate innovation teams
Attendance requirements

Full attendance is required in all sessions.

Teaching/learning method(s)

This is an interactive seminar - throughout the course you will be able to experience several methods first-hand and then experiment with creative group facilitation yourself. We will focus on analog tools (flipcharts, whiteboards, post-its and paper). 

This course is aimed at providing the tools to reactivate creativity and answer questions such as:

  • How can I activate creativity in business processes? 
  • How do I create and implement my personal visual toolkit?
  • How can I successfully facilitate teams in innovation projects?
  • How do I facilitate innovation teams using visual tools?
Assessment

30% in-class exercises (individual assessment)

60% participation in class (individual assessment)

10% assignment (individual assessment)

Chiara de Eccher is a former SIMC student, visual facilitator and freelance innovation consultant. She has 10+ years of experience in visual facilitation, agile facilitation, workshop moderation and innovation project management.
