Contents

This course provides an overview of survey-based research methods in the field of strategy and management. It covers the entire research process, from designing a survey over conducting a survey to organizing and analyzing data and interpreting results. The course aims to equip students with the skills needed to conduct rigorous survey-based research.

The course is especially suitable for students who aim to use survey methods in their Master’s thesis.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Design survey-based research studies.
  2. Develop and operationalize constructs.
  3. Collect and analyze survey data.
  4. Interpret and present survey results.
  5. Critically evaluate survey-based research.
Attendance requirements

In order to successfully complete this course, your absence is limited to 20 % of our appointments. 

Teaching/learning method(s)

1. Research and Presentation: Students will work in small groups to elaborate on a topic related to survey-based research (e.g., operationalization, data analysis) and then present their chosen topic. 

2. Hands-on Survey Project: Groups will conduct a small survey study, encompassing all stages from developing the questionnaire to collecting and analyzing data. 

3. Interactive Sessions: Sessions will include a mix of lectures, group activities, and discussions. 

4. (Digital) Handouts: Each group will create handouts summarizing their topic, which will be compiled into an overview at the end. 

5. Team coaching 

Assessment
  • Participation and Attendance: 20%
  • Group Presentations: 40%
  • Final Exam: 40% (10 multiple choice questions)
