The course will give you an understanding of some of the current issues in environmental economics. Some of the topics that will be introduced in the course are: Externalities and public goods; Non-market evaluation: stated choice and revealed preferences; Economic impacts of pollution; Types of environmental policies: standards, quantity-based instruments, price-based instruments; Distributional effects of environmental policy; Role of behavioral factors in the effectiveness of environmental policies (lack of information, consumer bias); Environmental policy in the transport sector

The aim of course is to provide student a sound knowledge of the main concepts and findings in environmental economics and be able to apply what learnt in class in policy-relevant contexts.

The attendance requirement is met if a student is present at least 80% of the time at class.

The course is based on class materials, such as slides and a selected list of scientific papers in the field. The material explained in class will be connected to actual policies or current issues in environmental economics. Students are expected to read the material in advance before class. The course will be held in presence.

The final grade is composed by the following elements:

Assignments 45%
Final exam 45%
Quizzes on reading material 10%

The grade scale is the following (based on total points):

Excellent (1): 90-100 points

Good (2): 80-89 points

Satisfactory (3): 70-79 points

Sufficient (4): 60-69 points

Fail (5): Lower than 60 points

Microeconomics and econometrics from the Master program, or equivalent.
