This seminar will introduce students to the world of international commercial law, based on the actual case for the 2024/25 Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition (https://www.vismoot.org).

Participants will collectively analyse the case, identify the relevant legal problems, conduct research, and present their findings in written form as well as orally.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students have improved their legal communication skills in English both in writing and orally.

Students will be able to give a concise overview of the current case and will understand how the Vis moot competition works.

Attendance requirements

Attendance is expected in all classes. Absence in one class will be tolerated without the need to offer a justification. Any further absence will only be tolerated if the student can provide a reasonable justification supported by written evidence (e.g. medical attestation).

Teaching/learning method(s)

Active discussion in class together with guided research.

Assessment

40% participation in class

30% written case memorandum

30% oral presentation

This seminar is open to all students (LLB & LLM) with an interest in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition

Bachelor students who cannot register for this seminar via LPIS should contact thomas.bachner@wu.ac.at directly.

In case of over-booking, priority will be given to active mooties and coaches.
