Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the basic concepts and principles of financial accounting.
  • Analyze and construct the key financial statements: the balance sheet and income statement.
  • Apply double-entry bookkeeping to record common business transactions.
  • Prepare and interpret financial statements from a set of business transactions.
  • Evaluate financial information to make informed business decisions.
  • Collaborate effectively in teams to solve real-world accounting problems
Attendance requirements

Attendance in 80% of classes is a mandatory.

Teaching/learning method(s)
  • Interactive Lectures: Each session will begin with an interactive lecture introducing key concepts and principles, supported by real-world examples.
  • Student Presentations: Students will present on assigned topics to encourage peer learning and deepen understanding of course material.
  • Hands-on Exercises: Practical exercises will be used to apply concepts, particularly in bookkeeping and financial statement preparation.
  • Group Work: Collaborative group activities, including case study analysis, will foster teamwork and the application of learned concepts to real-world scenarios.
  • Quizzes and Assessments: Quizzes will assess understanding of key concepts, and other assessments will gauge the ability to apply knowledge in a practical context.
  • Discussion and Feedback: Each session will include discussion and feedback rounds
Assessment
  • Participation: 20% (including presentations and class discussions)
  • Quizzes: 20% (based on reading assignments and key concepts)
  • Case Studies: 20% (group work and presentations)
  • Final Exam: 20%
  • Final Reflection: 20% (written reflection on learning outcomes)
