This Seminar Course deals with speical topics in Operations Management. It shall support you in the process of academic writing, be it seminar papers, bachelor theses or master theses.
We will provide you with some ideas for deepening your knowledge in the manifold field of Operations Management. In the course of this lecture, you will then create your own seminar paper, thereby learning and appling the basic rules of academic writing.
After successful completion of the seminar, you should be able to critically evaluate and discuss published results from the literature. Furthermore, you should have acquired the skills to write an academic paper of high quality and to effectively present your work
This course is designed as a Research Seminar. Hence, most of the work is done by yourself (writing the paper / thesis). This is why, presenece time is reduced in comparison to a "classic" course. There are only three sessions, in which you do presentations, see below. Attendance is reqiured in all three sessions.
We will have three sessions (see dates above), where you present the status of your seminar paper / bachelor thesis.
- Proposal presentation: Here you have the opportunity to present how you are going to work on your assigned topic. You can lay out the basic literature foundations, discuss with us about phrasing your research questions and present a rough draft of your table of contents. You will receive feedback from the faculty in order to support you in the process and give you a more structured starting point.
- Intermediate presentation: You share with us the current status of your work. Tell us what has happened since your proposal presentation, what went different than expected, what were some milestones that you acheived etc. Again, you will receive feedback and helpful nudges into certain directions if you run into problems.
- Final presentation: You provide us with final (or prelimiary) results of your paper / thesis and share with us the experiences that you have gathered. You should be able to summarize your findings and answer your research questions. Afterwards, you hand in your final seminar paper (not later than 3 weeks after the final presentation) or thesis.
For each presentation you will receive points on different areas, e.g. background information given, selected research method, strucutre and organization of the presentation, language etc.
The proposal presentation accounts for 30%, the intermediate presentation for 20% and the final presentation and results of the research project will account for 50%.
