The overall goal of this seminar course is to provide the students with the skills necessary for the successful use of information systems for solving real-world SCM problems. The seminar projects allow the students to develop skills in a wide range of different IS related topics in the fields of IS implementation and integration, IS modelling, data analytics and/or artificial intelligence. The projects cover real-world IS issues which are often handled together with industry partners. For all projects, modern standard software (e.g., SAP Business by Design, ArcGIS, AnyLogic or R) is used. The obtained skills are necessary for implementing modern planning and execution concepts in real-world SCM processes.
After successful completion of the class, students should be able to
- develop an IS-model for a given SCM problem setting
- customize SCM standard software
- develop and present solutions in a team
- synchronize work as part of a larger project team
- understand the problems arising when integrating several software tools
In general, full attendance is intended. Absence in one unit is tolerated if a proper reason is given.

Final grade is based on
- Proposal presentation (16%)
- Final presentation (20%)
- Speaker series summary (4%)
- Seminar paper (60%)
Grading scale:
(1) Excellent: 90% - 100%
(2) Good: 80% - <90%
(3) Satisfactory: 70% - <80%
(4) Sufficient: 60% - <70%
(5) Fail: <60%
Important note
There is the possibility to get a total of 4 points (per seminar and semester) if you participate in Speaker Series events:
- max. 2 points for 1 short summary (practitioner presentation)
- max. 2 points for 1 short summary (academic presentation)

Information regarding Speaker Series summary:
Any work handed in for grading can be submitted and graded as course work only once. Otherwise, it would be plagiarism. Therefore, if you want to earn extra points in a course you must submit original summaries
The successful completion of the course "Advanced Research Methods & Project Management" is the prerequisite for admission to this seminar.
