Contents

This class covers topics in gender economics, including participation in the labor market, leadership positions, marriage markets, obstacles in the academic career. Parts of the class are interdisciplinary and highlight the importance of borrowing tools from other literature (psychology, sociology, et.) to address fundamental research questions. When possible, the discussion is extended to other underrepresented minorities.

Learning outcomes

Students will gain a deep understanding of literature in gender economics, improve their presentation skills and develop a research proposal. Detailed guidelines for presentations are research proposals will be provided.

Attendance requirements

Attendance on the course is mandatory and it is essential to master the course content. Students will be asked to sign an attendance list at the beginning of each class. Students must be present on the day of their presentations.

Teaching/learning method(s)

Students are expected to read the assigned papers in advance. The class includes lectures delivered by the instructor, students’ presentation and group discussions.

Assessment
  •          10% in-class participation
  •          30% individual/group* presentations of a research paper
  •          30% individual/group* presentations of research proposal
  •          30% individual/group* submissions of research proposal

Individual and/or group size will be determined based on the final class size.
