This course covers topics in the area of Supply Chain and Operations Management. Its focus is on the practical application of methods and tools to solve current business problems. All classes will be held as BYOD-classes and deal with the application of Spreadsheet and other software tools to solve business problems in the following subjects:
- Supply Chain Network Design
- Production Planning and Scheduling
- Supply Chain Risks and Risk Management
Students deepen their understanding of theoretical methods of Supply Chain and Operations Management. They are able to apply software tools to solve business problems from the aforementioned areas and are able to analyse, assess and cricitally argue the results.
Attendance is required in all sessions. Absence in one session is tolerated if a reasonable excuse is given before the session.
Application-oriented sessions, students working on their own devices, focussing on understanding the underlying theory (methods) and implement/apply it in a software tool.
Session 1: Basics in Excel and virtual PC-Rooms
Session 2: Basics in Linear Optimization with Excel
Session 3: Network Planning
Session 4: Aggregated Production Planning
Session 5: Lot Sizing Optimization
Session 6: Repetitorium
- In each session there will be exercises about the covered topic. These exercises will each be worth 4 points and only the best four assessment will be considered for the final grading.
- After each session students will receive home assignments to solve in groups of 2. Each home assignment will receive up to 7 points.
- The final exam will take place in a BYOD-setting with a worth of 49 points.
The following grading scheme will be applied:
- 1: 90 points or more
- 2: 80 points or more
- 3: 70 points or more
- 4: 60 points or more
