Contents
The course introduces students to Project Management and to project-oriented organizations. Students learn basic concepts and principles of Project Management. It covers project objectives plan, work break down structure, project scheduling, project stakeholder management, project organisation and roles. Students apply these methods and concepts on their training projects. Students will find themselves projects and analyse project management practices applied in these projects. The course then focuses on how Human Resource Management (HRM) can support projects and project-orientations in organisations.

This interactive course is both theoretically based and hands on. By that it allows insights into the Project Management practice and enables students to reflect benefits and limits of project management as well as of project-orientation and its consequences for HRM.


Learning outcomes

•    Understanding of projects as temporary organisations developed.

•    Core project management methods were applied.

•    The concept of the project-oriented organisation and examples from practice

•    Specifics of Human Resource Management in project-oriented organisations

•    Trends in project management were identified and described.

    • Homework assignment 1 (individual work) - 25 %
    • Homework assignment 2 (includes Project Manual and Vernissage) - 25 %
    • Presentation of paper assignment - 20 %
    • Finan paper assignment - 30 %

      Organisation rules:

      • You are expected to have completed assignments, read the assigned material, and rework class exercises and demonstrations after each workshop.
      • PowerPoint lecture and assignments are posted throughout the semester in Learn@WU.
      • Emails will be sent to students´ university email accounts.
      • An electronic version of the homework should be submitted through Learn@WU, by the date agreed on. Any homework that is late will receive a score of zero. You need to be able to present the homework in class.
      • If your expectations for the course are not being met or if you are concerned about your grade or other course related matters, please talk to your instructor as soon as possible during the semester.
      • Full attendance and participation in class is expected. You may miss up to 5 hours, but you need to tell the lecturer before.
