Chat

You can activate the chat application in a course, for instance for offering your students virtual office hours or to have your students discuss a specific topic online. You can also create a chat transcript.

Once you have activated the chat application in your course, you can set up one or more chat rooms.

  1. In the chat application, click the button “Create a new room”.
  2. Complete the form.
  3. Save your data by clicking the button “Update room”.

Once you have created a chat room, you can edit it, configure access permissions, block users, or delete the chat room.

If messages have been sent in the chat, you can collect them in a transcript, if you have configured the chat accordingly.

  1. Make sure that the archive function is activated (“Yes”) in the chat room.
  2. Click the “Transcripts” button next to the chat room.
  3. You can now click on “Create transcript” and enter a transcript title.

In the chat application, the students can access the chat transcripts you’ve created.

With the help of an embed code you can integrate a chat room (which is already set up) into a content page.

  1. Click on the application Chat.
  2. Find the Chat you want to embed in the Table and click there at the button „Administration“.
  3. Under the header "embed chatroom", you can find an embed code. There, click at the Button „copy“.
  4. Go to the targeted learning activity/content page or create a new content page.
  5. Click on "This page..." and "Edit" and paste the embed-code with the keyboard shortcut STRG + v .
  6. Click the Button „Save“.

You can also embed this Code in a WIKI page and thus also provide a chat via a WIKI page.

With the LaTex-Version "Mathjax Formulae" you can also write formulas in the chat. Example:

will be shown in the Chat-window as  \(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)
